Chewing and oral strength support - MyoMunchee

Is it hard to eat meats, raw fruit and vege? Chewing strength could be the key. Build strong jaws and chewing strength - supporting better eating habits.
As a dietitian and feeding therapist, I’m passionate about helping children (and adults!) achieve healthy eating, strong jaw muscles for chewing, and a positive relationship with food. One of the wonderful tools I sometimes recommend is the MyoMunchee – a simple, evidence-based oral appliance that supports jaw strength, chewing, swallowing, and overall oral development.
What is a MyoMunchee?
The MyoMunchee is a soft, chewable device designed to encourage natural chewing patterns and strengthen jaw muscles. Think of it as “exercise equipment” for the mouth. It helps stimulate the jaw, tongue, and lips, to work together, which supports not only oral health but also feeding, speech, breathing, and posture.
Why might a MyoMunchee be helpful?
The way we use our mouths for chewing and swallowing has a big impact on how we eat, breathe, and even grow. Many children and adults benefit from MyoMunchee because it can:
- Improve jaw strength and oral coordination- Support better tongue posture and mobility- Encourage nose breathing over mouth breathing- Assist with swallowing skills- Reduce fussy eating related to oral muscle fatigue or weakness- Complement orthodontic or speech therapy goals
For children, it can also make chewing practice fun and engaging — a big win during feeding therapy!
How I use MyoMunchee in therapy
Not every child or adult needs a MyoMunchee, but when it’s appropriate, I may include it as part of your feeding therapy or nutition plan. After a thorough assessment, I’ll guide you (or your child) on how to use it safely and effectively, tailoring it to your unique needs and goals.
It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution — it’s one of many tools I use to support healthy oral function, confident eating, and overall wellbeing.
Who might benefit?
- Children with fussy or selective eating due to oral muscle fatigue - Kids or adults with tongue thrust, poor chewing, or swallowing difficulties- People who mouth breathe or struggle with oral posture- Those undergoing orthodontic treatment- Anyone wanting to strengthen oral function for better long-term health
Bringing it all together
As part of my holistic approach, MyoMunchee can be used alongside nutrition support, sensory-based feeding therapy, and lifestyle strategies to create lasting improvements. By supporting oral health, we’re not just helping with chewing — we’re building the foundation for confident eating, better breathing, and long-term health. If you’d like to explore whether a MyoMunchee could support you or your child, book a consultation today. Together, we’ll find the right tools and strategies for your needs.
